“My work is a response to my vision of society,” says Fair. “I see our culture as being addicted to petroleum and the unsustainable consumption of other natural resources, which seems to portend a future of scarcity. My vision is of a different possibility, arrived at through careful husbandry of resources and adjustment of our desires and consumption patterns toward a future of health and plenty.

“To gear our civilization toward sustainability does not necessitate sacrifice today, as many naysayers would argue, but simply adjustment. There are many societies existing at present that have a standard of living at least as high as ours while consuming and polluting a fraction of what is the norm in the United States.”

Ellis Stokes, 9, of Baldwin, visits Andy Warhol’s grave on what would be Warhol’s 86th birthday in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Bethel Park on Monday, August 6, 2012. Stokes, who is a Warhol fan, also wrote him a birthday card and added it to a folder of assorted notes left for the famous artist. The notes, along with photos of the evolution of soup cans and other memorabilia left at the artist’s final resting place, are then collected as part of artist Madelyn Roehrig’s ongoing documentation of Warhol’s grave.

Tiffany and Nick had their wedding at The National Aviary, on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA. I looooove photographing weddings at the Aviary, it’s a really dynamic place for a wedding. Before the wedding, which was performed by the groom’s sister (sweet!), Tiffany and Nick saw each other for the first time at the Inn on the Mexican War Streets, which is where I plan to move when I win the lottery. Gor-geous. The happy couple are both in med school and share a little apartment around the corner. Their adventures in the medical world are taking them to Nashville soon, so we used their “first look” session as an opportunity to prance gleefully around the Mexican War Streets so they could take a little piece of their neighborhood with them. It turned out to be a great place for portraits and prancing, and I hope they look back on these photos years down the line and remember their block and their time together in Pittsburgh. You know, once they hit the big time.
